Quick Publix and Walgreens Trip!

I now have a pretty good stockpile going so I have made it a new goal to spend under $25 a week on groceries.  If I keep on having trips like today then I will make that goal with no problem!  :)

Publix

Everything I got was BOGO except the Chef Boyardee which were on sale for $0.89 and I had a 2 coupons for $0.50/3. My total was $19.97 with a savings of $53.67!! That's a savings of 73%!

Walgreens

The total for all of this after coupons came to $9.74, then I used $5 in register rewards so my total out of pocket was $5.74 AND I got $5 in register rewards back!  So it's like paying $0.74! Retail for all of this is $34.15.  It has taken me some time to coupon at Walgreens...but I sure am starting to love shopping there!

PS if you need a break down of anything that I got let me know in the comments!

50% off Lakeland Ledger!

I was thrilled to see this offer in my inbox this morning from Mypolkdeals.com for reduced rate on Sunday Paper delivery if you don't already get it!

My Go-to Quick Meat Sauce

This is a dinner that I make very often during the week when I want to make something quick but something with substance. And all the ingredients I usually always have on hand. Bonus: this makes enough for leftovers to take to work the next day :)

  • 1 to 1.3 lb ground beef
  • 1- 28oz can whole tomatoes
  • 1- 28oz can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 bell pepper diced
  • 3 cloves garlic chopped
  • 1 cup red wine (whatever you have on hand)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp dried basil
  • Red pepper flakes to taste (I add about 2 tsp)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 lb pasta of choice
  • Grated cheese for garnish (I prefer Locatelli)

Fill a large pot up with water and bring to a boil while you prepare the sauce.

Heat up a big skillet at medium-high heat, once it's hot add the oil and the ground beef.  Salt and pepper the beef as it is browning.  Once the beef is browned (about 5 minutes) then add the onion, pepper, garlic, oregano, and basil to the pan.  Let that cook until the onion is translucent which should be about 5 minutes. Carefully add the wine while scraping the bottom of the pan...this will deglaze the pan getting up any of the yummy brown bits from the beef!  Let that cook for a few minutes to burn off the alcohol then add the two cans of tomatoes and some salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste.  Turn the heat down to low and let simmer while you cook the pasta.

At this point you want to add the pasta to the boiling water with a handful of salt to the water.  Cook the pasta according to the directions on the box (I always cook mine one minute less to make sure it stay al dente!)

Serve the pasta with sauce topping with grated cheese.

    White Watermelon Sangria

This is a cocktail that I threw together last summer when I had a bunch of watermelon left over that I didn't know what to do with!

I always make this with a bottle of "Southern White Wine"  that is from a local winery in Clermont, FL called Lakeridge Winery (I buy it at Publix).  It's a very sweet wine that has a distinct flavor that comes from the type of grape they use.  If you use another white wine it will be just as good, you just may want to up the amount of sugar to your taste.

    • 1 Bottle of sweet white wine
    • 1/4 cup simple syrup (recipe below)
    • 1/4 of a small watermelon cut into 1 inch pieces
    • Juice of 1 lemon
    • Fresh mint (optional)
So I typically cut the watermelon the night before and put half of it in the freezer so it acts like ice.  The rest of the watermelon put in a blender until it is smooth, then strain it before adding to your pitcher.  Then make the simple syrup by putting equal parts sugar and water into a small pan and bringing up to a simmer...once the sugar dissolves you are done!  Just let it cool before adding it to the pitcher.  Once it is cool add the simple syrup, the lemon juice, the frozen watermelon, mint, and bottle of wine and stir!

When you pour into the individual glasses you will get some frozen watermelon that you can eat when you finish your drink...yum!  :)

    $114 for $48 at Publix :)

I got a BUNCH!  Oh and yesterday I saw on some blogs that Sams Club is having an open house, which means that all this weekend people who are not members can shop in any Sams!  You just have to go to the customer service desk before you shop to get a pass.  I don't typically like shopping there, BUT the few things I recommend stocking up there are: chicken, ground beef, rotisserie chickens, Sams pizzas, and wine.

Anyway, here is the breakdown for my Publix trip:

    2 Yakisoba - BOGO
2 Crisco Olive Oil - BOGO
2 French toasts - BOGO and had $1 off coupon from FB
4 Keebler cookies - on sale for 2/$4 and had target coupon for buy 3 get one free
1 Tabasco sauce - there was a tearpad by the place they make meals for $.75 off (the little bottle is only $1.59)
